We are putting our foot down. This year we will not be drinking any lukewarm XXXX from an esky that is also doubling as a foot rest for Dad.
What we will be drinking, is Shandy. Yep, the refreshing half beer, half soft drink combo. But forget lemonade, we've got some recipes that will really quench your thirst.
Number 1. Watermelon Beer from Perpetually Hungry Blog
Pretty simple stuff. Get some Wheat or White beers and a watermelon. Blend the watermelon till puree'd. Strain until only the juice is left and chill for an hour (or less in the freezer). Then half and half beer to watermelon and serve immediately.
Number 2. Super Bowl Shandy from Camille Styles (Let's call it Long Weekend Shandy, though.)
Number 3. Strawberry Rhubard Shandy from Baking a Moment
Puree some strawbs and pop them in a glass (feel free to strain them to avoid seed chunks) with about 3 tablespoons of rhubarb syrup. Give them a little stir up. Poor your IPA or Kolsch over top and serve!
The most important part of all these recipes is to share them with mates, so with your Aussie Flag thongs on and a sizzling barbie - make sure you don't drink them all on your own!
