Hommus or hummus, it doesn't matter really because it all spells awesome. Because it’s mostly made from from chickpeas and a few other amazing ingredients, hummus is your go to guy for adding more protein and fibre to your meal. Try adding it to your salads, sandwiches or as a healthy dip with veggies. It will keep your tummy fuller for longer, and hopefully avoid the late afternoon cravings.
Don't buy that nasty store bought stuff. It can be loaded with stabilisers and preservatives which can make you feel bloated, gassy and wreak havoc with your gut. Hummus is very easy to make, here is my go to recipe:
Ingredients
- 400g chickpeas - cooked or tinned (make sure you rinse them)
- juive of 1 lemon
- 1 tbs tahini
- 1 tbs good quality extra virgin olive oil (with a robust flavour)
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1-2 cloves of garlic
- Himalayan salt to taste
- Smoked paprika, Dukkah or sesame seeds to sprinkle on top
Method
Place all ingredients in a blender, Thermomix, Vitamix, or under a hand held stick blender.Whiz until smooth. If your lemon is not juicy - add a little water until you reach your desired consistency.
Transfer to an airtight container, dust with smoked paprika and add to everything!
Get creative with your flavours!
Hummus is great as is but you can get a little creative and try adding things like
- capsicum
- different herbs like coriander
- chilli for extra oomph
- olives
- caramelised onions
- Roasted veggies like beets, pumpkin or sweet potato
Enjoy! Valeria x
