RO GUEST DESIGNER // Meet Lisa Perruzza!

We are absolutely THRILLED to introduce you to the incredible Lisa Perruzza, abstract artist, world traveller, reformed corporate warrior, and the woman behind some of the most uplifting, vibrant works we’ve ever had the pleasure of working with.

Lisa is based in the gorgeous Brisbane suburb of Bulimba, but her creative roots run all the way back to the rolling hills of the Lake District in Northern England, where she grew up with a paintbrush in hand and a mother who never stopped encouraging her to create.

After training at Cumbria College of Art and Design and spending two decades calling Australia home, Lisa has built a stunning body of work that spans collectors across Australia, Europe, Asia and the US. And now? She’s bringing that bold, brilliant energy to Ruby Olive...and we couldn’t be more excited.

We sat down with Lisa to chat about art, inspiration, starting over, and why the world absolutely needs more colour…

RO: Tell us about yourself and your world!
LP: I have a passion for all forms of art and design, travel and culture. I draw inspiration from my surroundings, whether that’s snorkelling at the beach, walking in the forest or discovering a new city. The beauty in the shapes and forms in nature and architecture inspire me, and my art is a continuing journey and evolution of my experiences. I work with a variety of mediums, acrylic, ink, impasto, oil pastels, pen and pencil. Being creative brings me great joy that I have the pleasure of sharing with the world.

RO: Take us back to the beginning — what’s your creative story?
LP: My first memory is drawing as a child. I was born to be creative. Born and raised in the picturesque Lake District of Northern England, my path as an artist can be traced back to my childhood and the influence of my late mother. She always encouraged me to paint and draw, and further my passion through art and design school. I obtained my artist training at Cumbria College of Art and Design before moving to Australia in 2004.

RO: Where do you find your inspiration?
LP: Landscapes, reefs, travel, experiencing new cultures, the shapes and textures of different environments, whether organic or manmade.

RO: What does your creative process look like?
LP: No rituals! I either have on an eclectic mix of music, get deep into a podcast series, or listen to nature - the birds or the rain - if I feel I need more stillness.

RO: Describe your art in 3 words.
LP: Uplifting. Abstract. Vibrant.

RO: What does a typical day look like?
LP: Walk my dog, grab coffee and water, get into the studio, play some audio and get into flow.

RO: Best and worst part of working for yourself?
LP: I’m impatient and get frustrated doing it all - that’s the honest truth! But the best thing is being able to do what you love. That makes it all worth it.

RO: A cause close to your heart?
LP: Supporting women.

Us too, Lisa. Always.

RO: What feeling do you want people to get from your work?
LP: The world is a dark place. I want my art to create joy and bring light into the darkness.

RO: Tell us something we’d never guess about you!
LP: I had a big corporate career until 18 months ago.

We LOVE this. Proof it’s never too late to back yourself.

RO: A piece of art that has truly moved you?
LP: Salvador Dali’s ‘Dream Caused by the Flight of a Bee Around a Pomegranate a Second Before Awakening’ (1944). It made me feel magic — like I was in the dream, experiencing all the chaos and surrealism. It’s mesmerising.

RO: Advice for someone following a creative passion?
LP: Get out of your head. Just start — no matter how small. Starting is the hard part.

RO: A quote or mantra you live by?
LP: Treat people how you want to be treated.

How do you inject joy into the everyday?
Being creative, being around good people, being in nature, and being with my dog.

We are so proud to have Lisa’s stunning work on all our products and we hope every time you reach for your RO x Lisa Perruzza Bag or Scarf, it brings a little of that joy and light she pours into every single one of her artworks.
